Camino Post #8- The Arrival into Santiago de Compostela

Today we walked all 17 miles straight to Santiago de Compostela without stopping other than for a quick bathroom break. We had planned to stop for lunch but the cafes along the route became scarce the further in we got. We also managed to loose the Camino route as we arrived in Santiago de Compostela. This meant we arrived along the back of the Cathedral without all the other pilgrims which was kind of a buzz kill. Needless to say, that was not exactly how we imagined our arrival would feel and it may or may not have been the cause of some bickering.

However, 80 miles later and 28 hours of walking carrying all we brought on our backs, we made it, even if we arrived hangry and backwards. We were able to stop by the Pilgrims office and pick up our certificates and the Cathedral itself is truly a sight to behold. We are tired and a bit sore so our plan is to tour the city and Cathedral tomorrow after a good nights sleep.

For now, here are a few pictures from our last day’s journey. Stay tuned for more posts as we reflect and process our experience. I hope you enjoyed following along on our Camino. I doubt it will be our last.

Buen Camino,

Nicki & Paul

Up before the sun and ready to go!

Foot bath along the route

A steady stream of pilgrims headed towards Santiago.

Almost there!

Arriving at the back of the Cathedral. Our bad!

We found the front.

It’s official! We have a certificate to prove it.
