I'm Not Oprah But I Do Have Favorite Things

I have a confession to make that may make you cringe.  In the era before DVRs and  Hulu I would set my watch to 3:45 which left me just enough time to grab a snack and head over to my favorite spot in the living room.  I had a  talk show to watch and watch it religiously I did.

I have one word for you:  Oprah.

One of my favorite shows was titled “favorite things”.  Not only did she highlight random new gadgets but I would find myself cheering along with her studio audience as she shared the wealth and her guests left with more packages than they could carry.

YOU get a car,  AND YOU get a car,  AND YOU get a car”..... Pretty sure you can find a GIF in about 5 seconds.  You get the picture.

Although I don't have ability to give away free cars, I thought it might be fun to highlight some of my current favorite things these days.  Maybe some of them are your favorites too?

Marco Polo App:  I LOVE this app and often joke that is the only reason I have been able to maintain friendships through this season of life.  Think of it as a video answering machine with no time limit (a dangerous feature when you are sending a polo to your best friend).  Marco Polo is an ongoing conversation with friends who can respond when their schedule allows.  I also love that it’s a video because it provides the opportunity to be authentic.  My close friends get to SEE me as life is happening which often means glasses on and no make up.  How's that for day to day real life?

Frontier Airlines:  I am addicted.  Thanks to frontier, we have found a way for our family of five to fly for less than the cost of the gas in our van.  Just last month we all flew on a direct flight to Texas for the grand total of $250.  It’s a bit of a game with Frontier so you have to be patient and flexible.  Kids fly free, but only on certain days.  Crazy good $15 one way tickets come up, but it’s usually somewhat last minute.  You also pay for extras (like bags) so you have to be smart but flying this airline has worked so well for our family.  I hope our future is full of many more adventures as a result.

Aldi:  Need I say more?  This Grocery store is my jam.  It’s simple, small, affordable, and is on it’s way to being one of the most natural grocery chains around.  Also, it’s a mile from my house and I can be in and out of there in 26 minutes flat so there’s that.

Schmidts Natural Deodorant:  My husband and I have been on the search for a safe, natural deodorant pretty much forever now but this one is a game changer.   I cannot tell you how many times my husband randomly exclaimed “WOW!  This is the best deodorant ever.” the first few weeks he wore it.  We now stockpile the stuff and will never go back.

Organic Food:  I know, I know, insert your eyeball roll here but I have been learning more and more about organic food and the logic behind it.  It’s been both eye opening and overwhelming, but as a family, we have decided to gradually take steps towards a more organic diet.   Note the word gradual.

Sabbath:  For those of you have not heard about this counter cultural -new to us practice called Sabbath, you can read all about it HERE in a previous post.  Basically, we take a 24 hour time period each week where we not only rest but unplug and enjoy life.  It has brought our family to a new level of inner peace and joy.  It continues to be an ongoing process for us but the blessing out ways the sacrifices to make it happen most weeks.

Sunlight- After a long cold winter this WI girl has to include sunlight on the list.  There is nothing like the real deal Vitamin D and not having to pop it as a pill is the way to go.  Summer and sun bring so much happiness to life I can hardly soak enough in.

So there you have it, a peak into my revolving door of favorite things.  What are some of your favorite things these days?
